The Queen’s birthday had special relevance as the flag on the Burghwallis War Memorial was raised by two war veterans from the village.
War veterans Mr Don Axon and Mr Brian Glidden raised the flag on behalf of the parish to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Brian served in the 4th Queens Own Hussars from 1957-59 and in the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars 1979.
Don served in the Royal Army Service Corp (Airborne Forces) from 1955-57.
Both gentlemen are now 79 years young and still going strong!
