The annual lighting of the tree lights tested the resolve of a hardy crew of 10 residents and a dog. Undeterred by an abundance of rain driven sideways by strong winds this hearty gathering ripped through a selection of carols at pace. ‘In the bleak mid winter’ took on a significantly new dimension.
The ceremony being shortened by the weather that invoked decaying enthusiasm and soggy hymn sheets was boosted by the lights working as planned and after a rousing cheer through frozen lips and muffled applause from gloved hands, this years service finished with the sound of welly boots and a dog sloshing quickly into the night.
Next year will be an improvement. It is rumoured there will a recording of carols sung around the war memorial in mid summer, and if the weather has a nasty turn will be projected onto a screen in December.
