Paul Brown, whom we featured in an article earlier in the year (S Yorks Police sportsman of the year) has added to his list of trophies by being awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year Honour’s list announced today 31st Dec 2015. The medal recognises his 32 years service to the police force where he served in the mounted police.
Although now retired, Paul of Old Village Street is still in the police as a special where his experience in crowd control is second to none. This included numerous crowd control situations between opposing football fans as well as the Bradford riots and the London Olympic Games.
In his spare time Paul is very active in charitable events such riding for the disabled and various Bluelight events were he has raised considerable sums of money. Despite the immense surprise at winning the medal Paul is really looking forward to the post ceremony tea party on the lawn at Buckingham Palace, although Tracy, Paul’s wife has yet to explain that it is highly unlikely he will get to ride his horse all over the Queen’s back yard.
