This year tree lighting and carol service has been cancelled
Last year the Christmas tree lighting and singing of carols tested the faith of just three residents who braved the appalling weather. This year is a bit different, well not quite. Due to the presence of storm ‘Darragh’ set to reposition everything near and dear to us, and the absence of a vicar, the tree decoration and lighting has been savagely curtailed. So it won’t happen! There will be just some lights and decorations.
Fortuitously this year the team chose a smaller tree lashed down to brave the elements and also befits the cramped space available in the war memorial setting. It also responds to complaints from the Trafalgar Square guys that we were trying to outdo them.
Although the ceremony has been abandoned this year feel free to hold your own private event. Pretend you have a good voice and know the lyrics and belt out a few carols to your heart’s content. They can’t touch you!
